Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have held a demonstration in support of the Syrian government in the port city of Latakia.

Demonstrators Thursday in the northwestern city chanted slogans against foreign intervention in the country and voiced their support for the Syrian government. The demonstrators also carried posters of the Syrian president along with the Russian and Chinese flags.

On October 4, Russia and China vetoed a US-led draft resolution proposed at the UN Security Council that threatened to impose sanctions against Syria over an alleged crackdown on protesters inside the country.

A similar demonstration was also held in the capital Damascus on Wednesday, where a million of demonstrators called for national unity.
