“Bahraini Dies after Regime Forces Run over, Torture Him”

Activists accuse the regime forces of brutally running over the teenager with their cars and then torturing him in custody.

A Bahraini teenager has died on Thursday. Activists accuse the regime forces of brutally running over him with their cars and then torturing him in custody.

Bahraini interior ministry issued a statement posted online on Thursday that police arrested Muhammad Ali Ya'qhoub on Tuesday "over acts of vandalism” in the country's central area of Sitra.

"He died in hospital and the public prosecution has been notified," the statement said.
However, a senior official from the prominent opposition group, al-Wefaq said the teenager was chased by police vehicles and that his body "was stuck between two (police) cars that were following him."

"Instead of receiving the necessary medical treatment, the police took him to the yard opposite Sitra police station where he was tortured”, Matar Matar added.

Ya'qhoub's death came after the body of a protester, identified as Saeed Fakher, was found one day after his arrest. Horrific marks on his body indicated that he was the last of the protesters to die under torture in prison.

Since the beginning of the popular uprising in February 2011, dozens of people have been martyred and thousands more have been arrested and put in jail or fired from their jobs in Bahrain.

In addition, many health workers, teachers, opposition figures and human rights activists in Bahrain are still facing trial or serving prison terms over participation in anti-government demonstrations.
