Accident in Southern Pakistan Kills 42

At least 42 people were killed and more than 10 were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck in southern Sindh province on Sunday morning.

The accident occurred at Saangi town located 550 kilometers northeast of Karachi where only one side of the National Highway was used due to repair of a patch of the highway.

The ill-fated bus was carrying some 55 to 60 passengers when it collided with a cargo truck apparently due to over speeding.

The deceased included women, children and the bus driver. The injured were shifted to Sukkur civil hospital where various are stated to be in critical condition.

In another development, at least 16 people, including 3 children, were killed and 30 injured when a mini truck fell into a ravine in northeast Pakistan on Saturday evening, police said.

The truck was carrying 50 to 60 people who were returning after a wedding in northeastern Jehlum district, located some 100 kilometers off the capital, Islamabad.
